The premières of three female Welsh composers’ latest works will be among the many treats in a forthcoming season of classical music.

Rhyl Music Club’s 2018-19 International Concert Series will consist of 12 fortnightly events, including recitals, chamber and choral concerts, at the town hall every second Wednesday at 7.30pm from October 3.

Picking up the baton from Proms in the Park in Colwyn Bay and North Wales Music Festival, the club will continue to bring top musicians from a number of countries to North Wales, while also maintaining its tradition of presenting some of the best which Wales has to offer.

The opening concert will be given by Wrexham-born Luke Jones, one of the most remarkable, accomplished, and musically mature young pianists rapidly making a name form themselves in Wales and abroad.

One of big attractions of this year’s programme will be Beethoven in Wales, cycle of three concerts in which all 10 of the composer’s sonatas for violin and piano will be played at venues around the country.

Each concert will include a new work by one of three talented Welsh composers, performed by the North Wales-based duo of violinist Mary Hofman and pianist Richard Ormrod.

The event will showcase Rhian Samuel on October 17, followed by Sarah Lianne Lewis on January 9 and a new work by Hilary Tann in the final event on March 20.

Meanwhile, last year’s official accompanying pianist Ellis Thomas, first prize-winner in the Rotary International Great Britain and Ireland 2018 Young Musician competition, will this time around present a full recital.

Among other favourites making a welcome return are the Sirenian Singers, harpist Elinor Bennett with flautist Rhiannon Mathias, and the Welsh Chamber Orchestra. International artists include the Australian pianist Joseph Havlat and the Bulgarian cellist, Michael Petrov.

All concerts are priced at £12. To book tickets, visit rhylmusic.com or telephone 01745 561006.
