FOODIES in Brentwood just can’t wait for Michelin Star chef Albert Roux to open a restaurant in town.

Proposals have now been submitted to Brentwood Council by the Frenchman to turn the old Post Office building on the High Street into a restaurant.

Roux, 78, is widely regarded as one of the world’s best chefs alongside his brother Michel, his son Michel Jnr and nephew Alain Roux.

With the family’s restaurants having multiple Michelin Stars, including three each at La Gavroche and The Waterside Inn, people in Brentwood expressed their excitement at Roux’s possible arrival.

Stephanie Clampett, from Kelvedon Hatch, said: “I love the idea of the Roux family coming into Brentwood.

“There are some good restaurants in Brentwood, but nothing to the class of what the Roux’s produce and this will be a classy joint suited to the town.”

Jeff Simmons, 51, from Pilgrim Hatch, added: “How exciting is this?!

“This is exactly what Brentwood needs. I Can’t wait.”

Other businesses in the town also said they were excited about the fine dining expert opening up.

Clive Othen, Brentwood’s Chamber of Commerce chairman, said: “We had a meeting the other day where this was brought up and everyone was very encouraged by the prospect.

“Having a prestigious restaurant in Brentwood would only help increase the footfall and food choice in the town.

“Whether the TOWIE bubble bursts or not, we do need to look at other attractions for Brentwood and this restaurant can only been seen as a positive thing.”
