AN ESTATE agent told how he ran in to a hotel screaming because he feared he would be tasered by a police officer who had stopped him for not wearing a seat belt.

Wayne Scott, 37, of London Road, Brentwood, admitted obstructing a police officer, driving without a seatbelt and refusing to give his details when he was pulled over outside the Holiday Inn in London Road, Brentwood on Tuesday, June 24.

Yet he claims it all happened because he feared the female officer was going to taser him. He ran in to the gym area of the hotel shouting: “I am going to be tasered!”

Joe Hollins, prosecuting, told the court Scott was pulled over by PC Watson for not wearing a seat belt.

When the officer asked for his licence details he said: “I was wearing it (the belt), I am not taking a ticket from you. You have no right to ask me you ******* ****.”

The court heard that PC Watson called for back-up and Scott ran in to the Holiday Inn where he was arrested.

In mitigation Scott, who represented himself, told the court after PC Watson called for help he feared he would be tasered.

He said: “She asked if she could have a word with me. I got out the car to get my swimming trunks and she grabbed me.

“I ran in to the hotel because I thought she was going to taser me. I thought I would be arrested over a seatbelt. I could not believe it.

“I was restrained by seven police officers. I have not been able to sleep since.

“I am not a dangerous guy, I have been an estate agent for 21 years, I have done charity work.”

Scott was fined £220 at Basildon Magistrates court - and ordered to pay £85 court costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.
