BRENTWOOD Town Hall is in line for a revamp which will see the reception area become a “one stop shop”.

Also planned as part of the facelift will be new showers, a dedicated medical room and solar panels on the roof, which will power new air conditioning units throughout the building.

The third floor will be leased to an outside company, meaning council staff will be moved to make more use of the buildings’ space.

A budget for the works was set aside three years ago after the opposition councillors voted against plans of the then Tory administration to sell the building.

Council leader Barry Aspinell said he wants staff in the new reception area to be trained so they are able to deal with residents’ inquires ranging from planning to council tax.

He said: “We’re on the look-out for a brand new idea that will engage with our residents.

“We want it to become a one stop shop, a public hub. I think this will.”
