NEARLY 100 people visited William Hunter Way on Monday night to have their on what they’d like to see built on the site.

Earlier this month Brentwood Council announced plans to restart talks with potential developers to get plans back off the the ground.

A six-screen cinema, Marks and Spencer, TX Maxx and a multi-storey car park were all in place to move onto the site after the previous Tory administration struck a deal with developer Stockland.

However, those plans fell through earlier this year after eight years of talks following a disagreement on how to fund the project.

At the meeting, residents heard about the history of the site, the surrounding area and were given a tour.

Councillor Russell Quirk, who chairs the council’s asset committee, said, “I was overwhelmed by the response we had from the public and the sheer number of people that turned up on Monday night.

“It reinforces our belief that residents’ views and what they would like for the future of William Hunter Way has to be at the heart of what happens next.

“Please let us keep up this momentum and I urge residents and businesses in the Borough to keep having their say and coming along to these meetings, where they are not only welcome to ask questions but actively encouraged to.”

Following the success of resident involvement in Monday’s meeting, an extra meeting of the William Hunter Way Working Group has been called for Monday, August 11, at 6.30pm to introduce and discuss the public consultation that is due to start in September.
