TRAFFIC issues at a Tesco store in Warley could become a thing of the past following a “constructive” meeting between store bosses and Brentwood Council.
The Express store on Warley Hill only opened in April, but its location on the busy road with a lack of parking options has left residents who live close to the store on surrounding roads, such as Hampden Crescent, are unhappy with the chaos it causes.
The recent meeting though, which also included South Essex Parking Partnership and Essex Highways, provided a number of ideas an initiatives that is hoped will improve traffic problems around the shop.
Ideas include only small delivery lorries servicing the store, Tesco to relocate the disabled parking bay from the rear of the car park to the space nearest the front and to install two additional bollards on the pavement to stop shoppers using it as an extra parking space.
Lib Dem County and Brentwood Councillor David Kendall said many of the problems encountered were predicted before the store opened.
He added: “It will take time to get all these measures in place but we have made an important start in the process."
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re currently reviewing options to improve parking and ease congestion and we’ll be sure to keep the local community and the council updated as our plans progress.”
