A NEW lift at Brentwood station has been out of action for six weeks, leaving disabled passengers unable to access one of the platforms.

The lift was only fitted in April, but has been broken for weeks following flooding.

Since then disabled passengers have been unable to access platform one, which is used by London-bound trains when they are diverted from platform three.

Richard Enever, the rail services officer of the Brentwood Bus and Rail Users Association has been on to the station manager to get the lift fixed for weeks and has now reached the end of his tether.

He said: “The lift has been out of action for six weeks.

“When is it going to be repaired? People who are disabled cannot get down the stairs.

“I was told the lift would be repaired on August 14. That date passed weeks ago!

“Now I just keep getting fobbed off. I’m very angry about all this. It’s not fair.”

Abellio Greater Anglia, which runs Brentwood station, said “urgent steps were being taken to resolve the issues”.

A spokesperson for Network Rail, which is responsible for the lift, said: “The lift pit on platform one has flooded and this is why the lift has been temporarily out of use.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to passengers and are working with Abellio Greater Anglia to fix this issue as soon as we can.”
