AN EVENT is being held to recognise the Royal Army.

For the first time in eight years, a Freedom parade will take place in Brentwood on Sunday October 9 to recognise the services to Brentwood of 124 Transport Squadron.

124 Transport Squadron is part of the Royal Logistic Corps, the largest single Regiment in the British Army.

The Squadron's role is to provide Logistics. 124 Transport Squadron is trained to carry out transport operations delivering much needed supplies to areas that require it.

124 Transport Squadron were awarded Freedom of Entry of the Brentwood Borough last year.

Freedom of Entry is the highest honour that the council can bestow on a military organisation and once the honour is awarded, the military organisation has the right to march through the streets of the Borough on all ceremonial occasions with colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed.

As they march along the High Street next month they will be joined by the Band of the Irish Guard.

The march will start at 2pm at Brentwood School, leaving the school via the gates in Ingrave Road.

A salute will be taken near the Chapel Ruins where the mayor of Brentwood, Noelle Hones will read out the Freedom of the Borough Scroll.

A rolling road closure will be in place during the parade; with roads reopening immediately after the parade has passed.

A reception for civic and military guests will take place after the parade at the TA Centre, Clive Road in Warley.

Noelle Hones, Brentwood mayor said: "This will be the first time 124 Transport Squadron will be marching through Brentwood since they were awarded freedom of the borough.

"This really is a special event and I’m sure residents will join us on the day to welcome and show their support for our servicemen and servicewomen."
