TRAIN services in Essex are suffering from major disruption due to an emergency incident.

The incident, between Stratford and Romford, has caused major disruption on the Greater Anglia mainline.

British Transport Police has confirmed it was called to Chadwell Heath station at 1.20pm to reports of a person being hit by a train.

A BTP spokesman said: "Officers attended but the person sadly died at the scene.

"We are now working to identify them and their next of kin."

Initially, it meant no trains are currently able to run between London Liverpool Street and Essex, affecting routes to and from Southend Victoria, Colchester, Clacton, Braintree and Southminster.

At 2pm, the operator announced some trains were running through the area.

But in an update issued shortly before 6pm, passengers were warned to expect disruption until 10pm.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stratford and Romford some lines have now reopened.

"Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or suspended between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield.

"Abellio Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption."

Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on c2c services between Fenchurch Street and Southend Central.
