BRENTWOOD School’s senior maths team proved themselves to be sum mathematicians securing a place in the final of a national competition.

The four member team, Alan Shan, Henry Mead, Andrew Ejemai and Shomik Milki, will represent the region in the Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC) organised by the UK Mathematics Trust and the Further Maths Support Programme.

The STMC is a competition testing mathematical, communication and teamwork skills, and students compete against teams from other schools and colleges from their region.

The 2017 National Final will be held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster, London, in February Upper Sixth student, Henry Mead, said: “I was elated over the win, especially as it was my debut in the event.

“We’re keeping our feet on the ground, but the lads and I are keenly anticipating the next round.”

Deputy Head of Mathematics Mr Tim Acton, said: “The Brentwood School team managed to qualify by beating tough opposition throughout the County of Essex.

“They required great team work and communication skills, combined with outstanding analytical acumen. We are now looking forward to the Nationals!”
