FROM Shakespeare’s the Tempest to the Blues Brothers Experience, there’s so much happening in Chelmsford’s up and coming theatre scene over the coming week.

That said, the Weekly News has taken a moment to string together a definitive guide of what to see, including various performances that won’t challenge the purse strings after Christmas.

Film Julieta, which made its international debut at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, will show at the Cramphorn, Fairfield Road on Tuesday.

This entrancing and heartbreaking film stars Emma Suarez and Adriana Ugarte as older and younger versions of the protagonist.

A chance encounter causes her to reflect on the tragic circumstances surrounding the disappearance of her daughter. Tickets are £6.90.

The next day, the theatre will host its free-to-attend lunchtime concert from 1pm where Catherine Herriot and Jillian Bain Christie offer up recitals of Scandinavian classics, including Rachmaninov and Robbie Burns.

That evening, a pre-recorded performance of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Tempest, originally filmed in Stratford-upon-Avon, will screen from 7pm, costing guests £14.50.

The Blues Brothers Experience, will show at the Civic Theatre on Thursday, January 12,  with tickets priced £20.

The Fairfield Road venue will see the recreation of Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi’s much-loved duo from 7.45pm.

Keeping in with the family theme, the Comedy Club 4 Kids will bring family-friendly stand-up vibes to the Cramphorn on Saturday, January 14, from 2pm, at £8 per person.

The weekend will also see the Dire Straits Tribute band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra perform, with tickets starting from about £20.
