Brentwood School’s hardy orienteers were back in action at Epping Forest near Loughton yesterday morning – their first outing of the New Year.

The Epping East ‘Michael Brandon’ Mitre event was a big competition organised by the Chigwell & Epping Forest Orienteering Club and, despite the focus being on adult runners, the school’s young orienteers fared well on the challenging courses.

Performing exceptionally well was Lower Sixth student Luke Cooper who showed his class on the Light Green 3.2km route. Despite the challenging contours which took their toll on competitors, Luke came home in first place in a time of 42.43. Catriona Kadirkamanathan finished in 12th position in a time of 66.49 on the same course.

Emma Bowie-Britton took second spot on the Orange 2.6km test with a time of 30:09 with Jessica Mills coming in one place behind in 44:42.

The bulk of the Brentwood team came home as a pack on the Yellow 2.3km course: Kate Bowie-Britton 6th (36:06); Janie Horton 7th (37:14); Stephanie Cooper 8th (37:59); Heather Trevelyan 9th (39:02); Sarah Prior 10th (41:04); Theo Williams 11th ((43:27) and Jemima Parasram 13th (56:28).
