RAIL bosses face a morning grilling from MP Will Quince.

The Colchester Conservative is meeting with Abellio Greater Anglia concerning the major disruption of Friday January 27.

Then, train services were cancelled and thousands of passengers faced disrupted services after a power failure on the Great Eastern Line.

That day the MP wrote to the company to demand an explanation, also asking why there were no contingency plans for such an event.

Tonight, Mr Quince posted their response online.

Managing Director Jamie Burles described the natured of the electrical faults as “unusual” and found at six different location spanning ten miles of track near Chelmsford.

The company also increased the number of contingencies from zero to more than 100 since it took over the franchise in 2012.

To replaces disrupted services, Mr Burles said some 400 buses would have been needed, something that could not be feasible.

However, there were some replacement bus services and ticket restrictions were lifted.

Mr Burles also apologised to the MP for the disruption.

He also said: “We are always keen to find any practicable steps we can to perform better in such circumstances, but they do need to be realistic and deliverable, as well as genuinely offering a better outcome for all passengers, not just a small minority.”

Mr Quince plans to meet with the company Wednesday morning.
