Brentwood School’s hardy orienteers took part in two outings over the half-term break – the first of which was a test of both stamina and strength.

On Sunday 12th February, the group took part in an event at Hadleigh Country Park, on a course with many testing hills.

However, the cold and the landscape did not deter Emma Bowie-Britton who claimed victory on the 3.2km Orange course, and Stephanie Cooper who won the 2.4 km Yellow course.

Also putting up a good time was Janie Horton who came home in 4th place on the Yellow, which gave her a good enough time to achieve her Yellow orienteering badge, awarded for completing three yellow courses in below-par times.

Kate Bowie-Britton found the hills tough but achieved 8th place, and Catriona Kadirkamanathan was 6th on the challenging 4km Light Green course.

Last Sunday, the team competed at Danbury Common where luckily it was less hilly, and the weather was better too.

This time, Catriona put in an excellent run on the Light Green, achieving 2nd place – only beaten by an experienced adult male orienteer!

Kate also fared better, and achieved a very creditable 4th place (out of 26) on the Yellow course.

Jessica Mills tackled a very challenging Orange course, and came in at 5th place – although she was the 2nd girl.

Sarah Prior, Ami Lodhia, Heather Trevelyan and Janie Horton had differing fortunes on the Yellow course, but all completed it successfully.

In addition, Janie’s younger brother Jake, from the Brentwood Preparatory School, achieved 2nd place on the 1.4 km White course – an outstanding achievement.

The team take part again on Sunday, this time in Thetford Forest.
