The underpass at the A127 in Basildon has reopened after an around 18-hour closure.
The A176 at Upper Mayne going the A127 towards Southend and Noak Bridge was closed at around 7pm last night as a result of the torrential rain experienced throughout Essex.
The water flooded the road beneath the A127 bridge and before its closure motorists attempted to ford the pool of water on their evening commute home.
This morning traffic was at a stand still as drivers intended to use the underpass but found it was still closed from last night's flood.
The Highways Agency were on hand to pump out the water blocking the road and it is now back up and running.
