The Apprentice is back on our television screens and 18 hotshots are competing against each other for a six-digit investment with the formidable Lord Sugar.

One of these eager go-getters is Chelmsford's entrepeneur, Ross Fretten, who hasn't always rocked the smart suits and neatly-trimmed beard.

No, Ross was once in a band of unconventional youths called the Emo Rangers.

The Emo Rangers are a fictional outfit of superheroes who fight against popular culture in a series of YouTube videos.

With a group of friends, Ross created a show about some youths from the emo subculture who have superpowers in a postmodern take on the popular 90s kids TV show, Power Rangers.

On their web page, they describe their series as: "Take a bunch of 80s/90s kids tv shows, throw in some depressed teenagers, add some terrible acting, shoot it with a skeleton crew of unemployed drunk media students, and then edit it half-assed backwards with someone who doesn't know how to sync dialogue - and you have one of the world's oddest tv shows."

The show jokes about topics such as drugs and music that emo kids would typically hate.

In one episode, Ross - who is the "Introspective Ranger" - fights parody versions of Soulja Boy and Avril Lavigne after the former tries to flog him 'free' music.

Ross is back in front of the camera again, but this time far from his days as a YouTube star and now on a popular BBC1 programme.
