Greater Anglia is warning passengers that there is severe disruption across their services after a person was hit by a train on the line at Shenfield station.

Services from London Liverpool Street into Essex have been disrupted this morning after the incident, which is believed to have occurred at around 9.30am.

Greater Anglia have taken to Twitter to inform passengers that "all trains are currently at a stand".

The disruption is expected to last until at least 1pm.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "We have been called to Shenfield station after reports that a person had been struck by a train. The call was made shortly before 10.30am today. 

"Officers are on scene alongside paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service, sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. 

"Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family. "

This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. 

Cancellations and delays are being announced via Greater Anglia's Twitter feed.

Advanced ticket holders will be permitted to use earlier or later services.
