LIFEBOAT stations on the Essex coast are urging people to respect the water this Easter.

As the school holidays approach, the RNLI is calling on people remember sea temperatures are still very cold.

Community safety spokesman Nick Ayers, RNLI community safety partner, said: “In 2017, RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched 213 times in Essex.

“If you are feeling brave enough for a swim, we recommend wearing a wetsuit at this time of year to stay warmer, and only enter the water if it is safe to do so.”

If you see someone in trouble, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
