A HOME caught fire today leaving one man needing medical attention.

Crews were called to the blaze in Westfield Avenue, arriving to a detached house with its upper floor 10 per cent alight at about 2.30pm. 

The fire was extinguished by 3.45pm, however, one man was left in the care of the ambulance services. 

Speaking during the ordeal, Danny Partridge, Incident Commander, said: “The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical fault. We are in the closing stages of the incident.

“The quick actions of firefighters in getting early access to the roof have prevented further damage to the property.”

Two crews from Chelmsford were joined by firefighters from Rayleigh Weir and Witham - two hose reel jets and one main jet were used to extinguish the blaze.
