CHELMSFORD'S new district commander has promised to make supporting victims of crime one of her top priorities.

Detective Chief Inspector Ronnie Egan started her role as the new district commander for Chelmsford and Maldon on Monday.

She replaces Chief Inspector Alan Cook who is due to retire in December.

DCI Egan has vowed to tackle violent crime, anti-social behaviour and reduce reoffending.

Since joining Essex Police in 1989, DCI Egan has worked in the north and the west of the county, and was seconded to the National Crime Squad, as well as having roles leading crime investigations and in the counter terrorism arena.

She was temporary district commander for the area in 2013/14 and has spent the last three years as part of the command team for the north of the county.

DCI Egan said: "I am immensely proud to have the opportunity to serve Chelmsford and Maldon as the District Commander.

"I have spent a lot of my service working alongside various partner agencies to reduce crime and I will continue to do so in this new role.

"My main priorities will be protecting and supporting vulnerable people and victims of crime, reducing re-offending, tackling crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour, and tackling violent crime.

"My previous work as the command lead for tackling and disrupting urban street gangs, organised crime groups and other hidden harm areas will be invaluable.

"I wish to work with all teams and partner agencies to try and combat this area of growing vulnerability, affecting all sections of the community, especially the younger and our future generation”.

Away from the force, DCI Egan is married with two daughters who she says "keep me in check and keep me focused on what’s important”.

She also loves all sports and is a keen runner.
