MORE than 100 people joined a colourful cultural event.

The Chelmsford Indian Association celebrated Holi at the Writtle Social Club and it was attended by about 180 people.

Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated in India and Nepal, also known as the "festival of colours" or the "festival of love".

The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.

There were games for children and adults in which the people participated with lot of enthusiasm.

In addition to the delicious, traditional Indian meal which included a drink called Thandaee, made only during Holi traditionally, there was a choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, which the crowd enjoyed very much.

There was also Bollywood music played during the event which the families danced to, followed by the smearing of dry colours in the football ground afterwards.

There was also a collection made by Kushi Inamdar who is a student at the Chelmsford County High School towards the Living Hope School in Uganda as part of the continued collaborative work the Chelmsford County High School is doing in Uganda.

All in all it was a wonderful day of fun, good food and company for everyone who went along for the event.
