A CHARITY that supports families and people with disabled children has been awarded more than £300,000 in funding.

Families InFocus Essex, which is based in Mildmay Road, Chelmsford has been granted funding of £331,185 from the Big Lottery Fund, an organisation that gives grants to groups to help improve communities.

The funding will be spread over three years and will help the Family Support Project run by from Families InFocus.

The project aims to provide specialist, independent and person-led support to any Essex parent, carer or family that has a child or young person with any special educational need or disability.

The project seeks to improve health, social, emotional and economic wellbeing, and improve the quality of life for the whole family.

The charity offers support over the phone, via email, and in face-to-face meetings, drop- ins or home visits.

Rachel Ellis, chief executive of the charity, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded three-year funding from the Big Lottery for our Family Sup - port project across Essex.

“As we also celebrate our 20th anniversary, it is a huge relief to know that we have a con - tinued secure financial footing to go forward, so that we can carry on making the difference that matters for even more families with children and young people with any special educa - tional need or disability.

“Through the project we help address the stressful life challenges and issues faced by Essex families living with a child or young person.

“We know that many families are often close to breaking point, so through working with them, we are able to provide the lifeline that they are looking for to help them to cope and have positivity for the future”.
