FIRE crews rushed to a large pile of rubbish on fire in Chelmsford.

Crews were called to the fire in Ongar Road yesterday at 8.04pm.

The firefighters reported that the pile of rubbish, measuring around 10m by 3m, was 100 per cent alight.

The crews worked to extinguish the fire by 9.40pm.

A spokesman for the Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Although the cause of the fire has been recorded as unknown, it is likely that is started after a bonfire became uncontrollable."
