FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a fire in a home in Writtle.

The crews were called to the fire in Rectory Road today at 12.15am.

When crews arrived they reported the fire was in the first floor bedroom and the first floor of the house was full of smoke.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and extinguished the fire by 12:40am.

The bedroom was damaged by the fire and the rest of the floor suffered slight smoke damage.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.

The occupants had been alerted to the fire by their working smoke alarm.
