A CHELMSFORD teacher is among more than a dozen school staff who have received national recognition.

Winners from February’s Essex Teaching Awards were all put forward by Essex County Coun - cil for this year’s Pearson Teaching Awards – an annual national awards scheme that celebrates excellence in education.

Michelle Orchard, from Moulsham Junior School, Chelmsford, won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

There were another 13 other Essex Teaching Awards winners who were awarded Certificates of Excellence, coinciding with Thank a Teacher Day.

Michelle Orchard, Pastoral Support Leader, said: “It was a pleasant surprise to be nominated and then an unexpected honour to win the lifetime achievement award.

“I really enjoy working at Moulsham Junior school, I find it very rewarding because I have been able to work closely with, support and build relationships with many families over the years and have seen numerous children achieve their best.

“As a child who didn’t love school myself, I can sympathise with any child who, for whatever reason is reluctant to attend school.

“Moulsham Juniors has a bril - liant team of teaching and support staff, parents and children.

“I feel proud to be associated with this school and flattered to have won the award.”

Marie Staley, headteacher at Moulsham Junior School said she is delighted that Michelle won the award.

She added: “Our school would not run as smoothly as it does with 600 pupils if it was not for Mrs Orchard’s relentless efforts for our children and families.

“She will do anything that she can to secure the best for people; be it new uniform, counselling support, food vouchers, a comfy sofa to curl up on if you have friendship worries or a cup of coffee for the parent who is finding it all a bit too much.”
