Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve, Chelmsford has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as a top-quality park.

The site is among a record number, 1,797 parks and green spaces to receive a prestigious Green Flag Award.

This international award suggests to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully-maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve runs for approximately 2.5km from Valley Bridge to Victoria Road comprising a mixture of grassland, scrub, woodland, pond and river habitats, marsh and formally managed parkland.

The reserve is managed by Chelmsford City Council with the assistance of voluntary and community groups.

Councillor Bob Massey said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the reserve. This important wildlife habitat is now one of 14 Green Flag parks in Chelmsford.

"We are lucky to have an abundance of beautiful green spaces in Chelmsford. Each one offers a different experience, from shaded wildlife havens and riverside walks to sprawling parklands and children's play paradises. I am very pleased to see them recognised with these national accreditations."
