HISTORY enthusiasts are invited to a series of heritage events in the city.

Chelmsford will again be hosting Heritage Open Days, as part of an annual free nationwide event sponsored by the National Trust.

The idea behind the event, which runs from September 7 until September 11, is to allow free access to properties that are not usually open to the public, and includes various tours.

There will be a talk on 10,000 years of history of Writtle and the influence of Romans on the village.

This will be held at Writtle University College on September 7 from 7.30pm.

There will be a history event at the Ideas Hubs, Chelmsford featuring talks by Essex historians.

The first will be by Andy Begent on Chelmsford during the Second World War. which will be followed by a second talk on The Secret Wartime Device Made in Chelmsford by Alan Pamphilon.

These talks promise to be interesting and more will be revealed about this period of our city’s past.

There will be another history event taking place will be at the Galleywood Heritage Centre on Sunday, September 10 from 3pm when there will be a talk about the rich history of the village of Galleywood and the racecourse.

A number of city buildings will feature in the event, including Hylands House, Chelmsford Museum and Sandford Mill Museum.
