Part of the A12 has to be closed off due to a crash invloving three cars this morning, leaving one man with suspected neck and back injuries.

The road was closed northbound between junction 11, for the Brook Street Roundabout, and junction 12 for Shenfield.

Access from the M25 anti-clockwise was also closed.

One man had to be cut out of his car by the fire service before he was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the ambulance service has said: "A man has been taken to hospital following an incident on the A12 in Brentwood, Essex.

"The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust was called at 8.18am today (8th September) to a road traffic collision on the A12, before the Brentwood junction, Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood.

"The road had to be closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

"An ambulance attended and treated a man, believed to be in his 50s, with suspected neck and back injuries. He has been taken to Queens Hospital for further treatment but is not believed to be in a critical condition."

A spokesman for Essex fire service said: "Crews were called to a road traffic collision on the northbound A12, between junction 11 and 12 this morning.

"On arrival firefighters reported that three vehicles were involved in a collision one and one male was medically trapped.

"Firefighters worked to release the casualty and left him in the care of the Ambulance Service by 9.45am."

One man has been reported for careless driving.
