A man from Chelmsford has been jailed for 11 years after being convicted of three counts of rape.

Following a two-week trial, Neil Parrish, 37, of Burgess Springs, was found guilty of three counts of rape and charges of affray and assault by beating.

The trial concluded at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, November 3.

He had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage.

Parrish was sentenced to 11 years for each rape charge, three months for affray, one month for criminal damage and one month for assault by beating, all to run concurrently.

He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and made subject of an indefinite restraining order.

Parrish was found not guilty of two counts of rape, one assault by beating and one assault by penetration.

The jury were unable to reach a decision on one count of assault by penetration and one count of rape.

He was arrested after a woman contacted police in April and reported that she had been raped by Parrish a number of times between 2013 and 2017.

Later that day at 9.15pm, Parrish got into a fight with a man in Trent Road, Chelmsford, following an argument and then damaged his car.

Police made enquires and arrested Parrish the following day.

Speaking after the trial, investigating officer Dc Chris Major said: “Parrish subjected the victim to a horrific ordeal. She has shown great strength and bravery throughout the case and subsequent trial after Parrish denied all the allegations.

“Parrish has shown no remorse throughout the case and will now have plenty of time to think about his actions in prison.”
