Children will get the chance to become film makers and learn about the history of communications as part of the Essex Book Festival.

Children will write their own script and use Sandford Mill’s collection of equipment, including cameras, green screens and iPads, to bring their story to life.

They will then be filmed reading their script, supported by a host of items from the mill’s collection, including images and settings to make the experience jump out of the screen.

The event will also let you discover the fascinating story behind Marconi and how the sinking of the Titanic helped the company gain worldwide recognition for its pioneering work.

Dr Mark Curteis, assistant museum manager, curatorial and learning, said: “Marconi’s work revolutionised communication for radio, television, space and defence, and the mill is home to many important Marconi artefacts, many of which are on display and come to life in the mill’s TV studio.

“Children will be fascinated by the range of Marconi equipment the museum has and the digital storytelling will ignite their interest in this fascinating subject”.

The digital storytelling workshop will take place on March 17 at Sandford Mill between 2pm and 5pm, and is strictly limited to 25 places.

Tickets are £6.50 or £25 for a family of four.
