A man has been sprayed in the face with an unknown substance.

Police were called to reports of a man seen with a knife in the Mendip Close, Chelmsford, area at around 6.35pm on Tuesday, April 3.

Police found two people injured at the scene - one had injuries to his face while the other had been sprayed in the face with an unknown substance.

They were taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers carried out a search of the area and a short time later arrested three people.

A 16 year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault, use of a substance or object to endanger life, and possession of drugs.

Two 15 year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and use of a substance or object to endanger life.

They are all currently in custody.

T/Detective Sergeant Neil Tremain from Chelmsford CID said: “We believe this was a targeted incident and there is no threat to the wider public.

“We need to speak to anyone who saw the incident or has any information about it.”
