A HUGELY successful week of action by Essex Police has seen class A drugs taken off the streets, significant arrests and seized cars.

A week of action ran from July 16 until July 22 across the city, and the results have now been published.

On July 16, the team kicked off the week of action to target organised crime in the area with a drugs warrant in Baker Street, Chelmsford.

The team arrested a 60-year-old man from Chelmsford and a 20-year-old man of no fixed abode after a quantity of Class A wraps and weapons were found inside the house. Both men have been released on police bail until August 8.

Officers seized a number of individual wraps of suspected crack cocaine and heroin, a three figure sum of cash, a knuckle duster and a baton as well as a number of phones.

Three other warrants were executed throughout the course of the week, all of which saw arrests or drugs recovered.

In total, six people were arrested for possession with intent to supply throughout the week.

Two major arrests came for the team on Tuesday, when two men wanted in connection with a kidnap in Maldon, which took place in June, were found.

Ethan Sweeney, 25, from Tennyson Road, Chelmsford was arrested and later charged with robbery, kidnapping and causing grievous bodily harm. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday, August 15.

Tony Price, 26, from High Street, Chelmsford was also arrested. He has since been charged with kidnapping, criminal damage, two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, robbery and assault with the intent of resisting arrest. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at court on August 16.

In addition, a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been released under investigation.

Officers took to the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights, and targeted stops saw 50 drug swipes administered over two nights, with 10 testing positive for traces of cocaine.
