MORE than 650 applications were received for 20 jobs at a new store.
Applications flooded in for a new Tesco Express store, averaging more than 32 applications for every vacancy.
Tesco has recruited staff from the city to work in the new shop, in Moulsham Street, Chelmsford. Katherine Wilson, deputy manager, said: “I was thrilled by the huge response we received to our recruitment drive.
“In this time of economic uncertainty, it is great that we are able to create jobs for our local community and help get people back into work.
“I’m really pleased with my new team and I’m looking forward to working with them. We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store and look forward to playing an active role in the local community.”
Store opening hours will be seven days a week, from 6am to 11pm.
