A BENCH has been installed to help elderly people living in a nearby retirement property rest during their shopping trips.
The seat was put in at the entrance of St Thomas Church, St Thomas Road, Brentwood, through funding from councillor ward budget money.
The bench is near St Thomas Court, a set of retirement homes, and will allow residents to take a seat if they need a rest while visiting the High Street.
Ward councillor Mike Le-Surf, leader of Brentwood Council’s Labour group, requested the cash for the bench.
Mr Le-Surf said: “In these difficult times, anything councillors can do to make our residents’ lives a little easier has to be good.
“This localised funding spent on behalf of residents is a good idea if used in a practical and positive way and I am delighted residents at St Thomas Court suggested this bench.”
