A SURVEILLANCE camera has been installed at a recycling point in Kelvedon Hatch to deter flytippers.

Brentwood Council has put up the CCTV camera at Crown Corner at the junction of Crown Road and Ongar Road to trace anyone who dumps rubbish at the site which should not be left there.

This includes items like fridges and general waste which have been left at the recycling point in the past.

On average around Brentwood there are three incidents of flytipping each day with collection and disposal of the unwanted items cost the council £50,000 a year.

Keith Parker, council spokesman for the environment and Conservative ward councillor for Brizes and Doddinghurst, said: “Brentwood is a clean, green and pleasant Borough and we want to keep it that way.

“We hope that this new camera is a cost effective way of monitoring an area that is often ruined by fly tipping which obviously costs the Council to remove.

“We want to send the message out that day or night you can’t dump rubbish at Crown Corner and get away with it.”
