IVF treatment looks set to be cut for residents in Brentwood as a report recommended the controversial move.

Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group, which buys healthcare services in the two boroughs, is desperately trying to save £14million.

The group is facing a deficit unless it reduces spending and launched a consultation to cut a number of services, including e-cigarettes, cosmetic procedures such as liposuction and breast enlargements, and simultaneous joint replacements.

The consultation is now up and reports released ahead of its official meeting to discuss the consultation suggest that most of the services under threat will be axed.

One of the most controversial facing the axe is IVF.

Despite 42 per cent of respondents to the survey calling for IVF to remain funded, the report recommends funding is scrapped for new patients.

Jade Collins, 27, from Basildon, underwent IVF when she and partner Lewis struggled to conceive.

She said: “I just don’t agree with this. It’s disgusting.

“Everyone should be able to have that one chance of IVF.

“The CCG is putting money before patients - it is all about the money and they are not considering people’s feelings.”

The report adds that the CCG is aware of the physiological impact cutting the service would have.

Charity Fertility Fairness also recommended the CCG did not cancel the service.

The report will be discussed and a decision made at the CCG’s next board meeting on Thursday, November 24.
