A FOX is fighting for its life after four rubber toys and a circuit board were removed from its intestines.

Vets decided they had no option but surgery when the vixen was brought into the South Essex Wildlife Hospital by the RSPCA.

Sue Schwar, founder of the hospital, said: “She was collapsed and dying. We had no choice but to open her up.

“We suspected she wouldn’t survive the surgery but we wanted to give her a chance.”

The problem was first spotted after chewed rubber toys were discovered in the fox’s droppings.

Four incisions had to be made during the three-hour operation to remove the objects.

The vixen, believed to be around two years old, is still in a critical condition but there is a chance of her making a full recovery and hopefully returning to her natural habitat in a few weeks.
