MORE than 20 operations have been cancelled at a city hospital following a cyber-attack on NHS services.

Broomfield Hospital had to cancel five operations on Friday, eight on Saturday and 14 today after the attack that was carried out by computer hackers known as Wanna Decryptor on Friday.

The incident saw hackers sending ransom notes, demanding $300 in bitcoin currency paid, to hospital computers.

The hospital also confirmed that 28 appointments have been cancelled due to the incident.

A spokesman for the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust said: “We are recovering from a major incident following the ransom ware attack on Friday and are striving to restore normal business across the organisation. We are very proud of the way that our staff have responded with many volunteering to work to resolves the issues over the weekend. We would also like to thank our patients, partners and stakeholders for their support.”
