TWO Boreham students have been honoured with an award in the name of the late Princess Diana.

The Diana Award is celebrating its 20th anniverisary – which coincides with Princess Diana’s Birthday – by releasing its Roll of Honour for 2017. The names of over 750 outstanding young people, from across the UK and the world, have been announced.

The winners of the award, who are young people, embody Princess Diana’s qualities of kindness, compassion and service.

William Baird and Alexander Matthews both aged 18-years-old and Year 13 students at New Hall School, were both nominated for their exemplary community focus throughout their school years.

The two students have also received an invitation from The Right Honourable Earl Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, for a complementary visit to Althorp, Princess Diana’s childhood home.

The students are both members of the New Hall School Voluntary Service and the students have both given up an extraordinary amount of time throughout their school years to voluntary endeavours.

Will said: “Receiving a prestigious Diana Award is huge honour for myself and one that I will always treasure.

“It’s a tremendous accolade that I will carry with me always; relishing the pride that comes with it.

“Of course you should live life carrying out random acts of kindness, with no expectation of re - wards; yet it’s humbling to know my charitable efforts and my aim to have a positive impact on the lives of others, has been noticed and valued by those around me.”

Alexander said: “When I found out I had won the Diana Award I was both delighted and honoured to win such an accolade.

“To win this award I helped out at the local allotment, where young people with learning diffi - culties come and learn new skills.

I felt this group wasn’t as well attended as a felt it should be.”

The Diana Award was set up in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.

It is committed to fostering, inspiring and developing positive change in the lives of young people through practical social action.

The award has the support of both her sons The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

All the award winners – who come from every region in the UK and USA, Canada, UAE, India, Belize, Australia, Greece, Indonesia, Croatia, Liberia, Jersey, New Zealand, Indonesia and Liberia - have had a monumental impact on society and lives of those in their communities.

Tessy Ojo, Chief Executive, The Diana Award said: “We are delighted to announce our Roll of Honour on Princess Diana’s Birthday as we shine a spotlight on her legacy twenty years on.
