A woman has set up a crowdfunding page to save a stray dog which was brutally attacked in Greece.

Michele Taylor, from Brentwood set up the JustGiving page to pay for treatment to save a poor stray harpooned in the head by a human.

Michele has already rescued two dogs from Greece, after learning how badly strays can be treated in the country.

She said: “this poor young stray just isn’t wanted around in her village in Greece, so the locals took to spearing her in the head last week.”

“I’d like to try help the volunteer group with vet’s fees and homing of this one her after her operation - these volunteers can’t keep doing it all themselves, so let’s give a little to help at least rehabilitate this poor baby. Humans can be quite wicked sometimes.”

The Brentwood housewife learned about the plight of this dog through an organisation called Greek Animal Rescue. The group looks to save, treat and rehome strays in Greece which would otherwise be subject to abuse or euthanised.

Michele is hoping that the donations from the crowdfunding page will be enough for the dog to be safely rehomed. Vets safely removed the metal trident and were able to save the dog after surgery.

Michele added: “Seeing that people can torture strays like this is horrible. I saw this poor dog on Facebook and thought I had to do something.”

“You can’t save all the dogs you want to, but you can do something. I’m really grateful to everyone who has donated so far.”
