Brentwood Bowls Club remembered one of its most beloved members at their annual awards evening on Friday night.

The club, who play at King George'a playing fields in Ingrave Road, Warley, packed out the club pavilion for a dinner and awards ceremony, where they also showed appreciation for Harry Egleton who sadly died on Wednesday November 1.

Harry was expected to receive two awards on the night before his death was announced by the club president, Byron Davies.

He died ten days after he suffered a heart attack while he was bowling in Tilbury. 

He was 81 years old.

Harry, who was from Romford, led the team to Alison Hare and Ann Powell to a 16-shot victory in the Ted Hasler triples competition early in the season.

He also went on to become runner-up in the men’s section competition for the Jubilee Plate.

The men's side captain, Fred Wasmuth remembered Harry fondly from when they first met at an old team.

He said: said:”Harry certainly turned out to be not only a good player for us but was well liked by everyone at the club.
"We will miss him, that’s for sure.”

Harry's life was celebrated at the event before a host of awards were handed out across the rest of the evening.
