There is no greater sensation than the buzz which filled the dressing room in the wake of a County Championship victory.

The final weeks of the 2017 season will live long in the memory of all involved and after a winter reminiscing, it has just about sunk in.

But the hunger and desire to push forward and replicate last season’s success, is rampant in the dressing room. This week’s victory against Lancashire illustrated this perfectly.

After a disappointing four days up at Headingley it was vital that we hit the ground running and registered some significant points on the board.

There is a healthy rivalry between ourselves and Lancashire. We each play very attacking styles of cricket, which inevitably led to the tense and exciting finish on Sunday evening.

The most impressive thing about this team, is the ‘never give up’ attitude, as well as the genuine confidence that we can win a game from any situation.

I think that was optimised perfectly this week with Fozzy [James Foster] and Harmy’s [Simon Harmer] partnership with the bat. With the ball, again Ports [Jamie Porter] and Harmy were unbelievable. It has to be said, seeing them walk off after bowling Lancs out in the first innings, it felt like they’d never been away. They were supported brilliantly by Peter Siddle who has been brilliant addition, especially for a young player like myself trying to learn as much about bowling as possible.

Paul Walter picked up two massive wickets as well so it was another awesome victory and a perfect way to begin the defence of our title.

On a personal note, it’s been a bit of a frustrating start to the season, having picked up a side injury on our pre-season trip to Barbados it was a bit of a race against the clock to get fit for that first game.

To then take a ball on the end of the finger in fielding practice the day before the Lancashire game, you can believe my further anguish. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long until I’m back playing and as I type this it feels OK.

Until then up the Eagles.
