A ROYAL British Legion band leader has been given the unusual honour of having a supermarket delivery van named after him.

Residents of Brentwood named Ian Yeoman as their Highway Hero for how he conducts the Royal British Legion Band and Corps of Drums Romford and his continual efforts to make a real difference.

His name will be blazoned across the front of a Morrisons van.

Ian’s work takes youths off of the streets and teaches them music, discipline, marching and morals to help set them on the right path and build a brighter future. He was also awarded a British Empire Medal by the Queen in the New Year’s honours list for his services to youth and music.

Simon Thompson, the managing director of Morrions Online, said: “Thirty-six years of voluntary endeavour has taken Ian from a member to the leader of the band. A band that transforms the lives of local young people by teaching them not only music, but discipline and a sense of purpose.”

As well as having a van named after him, Ian also received a £1,000 donation to their cause or charity of his choice and £100 towards an online shop at Morrisons.
