A NEW street inspector will be tasked with tidying up Brentwood while helping to nail flytippers.
The new role, expected to be approved by the council this week, will see an inspector spearhead the war against litter bugs .
The idea is for the inspector to work with the existing Neighbourhood Action Team to identify problem areas and tackle flytipping and rubbish hotspots .
Brentwood council leader Louise McKinlay, is supportive of the role. She said: “We’ve had quite a number of complaints about litter and work that needs to happen to improve the look of the borough, keeping it green and clean and driving up standards.
“We expect the plans to go forward and I think it will be in place by the end of the summer.”
Councillor Chris Hossack, added: “Flytipping is statistically up across Essex and is up in Brentwood.
“It is particularly bad in rural areas, such as Navestock.
“The street inspector will help prevent this and catc h people doing it. We’re also going to employ covert cameras more than before.
“This is an opportunity to make Brentwood’s streets tidier and more appealing.
“We know people who liv e here want their town to be clean and tidy as much a s possible. It’s one of the most common things people bring up so we’re trying to put resources in to mak e improvements.”
