It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as Brentwood Borough Council gears up to host the Town’s festive run-up to Christmas event – Lighting Up Brentwood!

On Saturday, November 28, from 12noon to 6pm in and around Brentwood High Street, visitors can enjoy some warm mulled drinks or hot chocolate at the bar and start their Christmas shopping at the many gift stalls that will be present on the day.

Shoppers will be able to browse stalls including jewellery, wreaths and handmade crafts, whilst children can enjoy some funfair rides, visit Santa in his Sugar Hut based grotto, see the Nativity scene, have their face painted, and photo taken in the Snowglobe.

They can also pop over to the Chicken and Frog bookshop to see Santa’s elves, and take part in the Santa Hunt competition, which will run until December 24, with some great prizes donated by local businesses.

There will be an array of food on offer, from crepes, burgers and donuts, to sausages, hot chestnuts and a chocolate fountain.

In Crown Street, there will be a series of great market stalls and a stage providing even more entertainment for visitors.

Free parking will also be available during Lighting Up Brentwood at the multi-storey car park in Copford Road.

Entertainment on the main stage by Wilson’s Corner will be provided once again by the team from Phoenix FM, who have scheduled some fantastic acts, including The Princess and The Party and Lydia Lucy.

The evening’s entertainment will culminate with a beautiful candle-lit choir from the local Churches Together and the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Mark Reed will switch on the Christmas lights at 5pm.

Throughout the afternoon there will be some cracking street performances from a range of acts, including a much anticipated appearance from the world-famous Titan the Robot.

Titan’s unique combination of comedy, music and street theatre has led him to be in great demand and he has appeared alongside Rihanna, Will.i.am and Will Smith, and has entertained people from all over the world.

Visitors can also see performances from Anton the Juggler, an LED hula hooper, the Balloonatic Elves, comedy performances from the Liver Cottage Christmas duo and some hilarious camel stilts from the Grand Theatre of Lemmings.

Brentwood Borough Council’s Chair of the Community and Health Committee, Councillor Will Russell, said: “Entertainment this year will be better than ever! We have tried to book Titan for the past few years but he has always been fully booked.

"We are so excited that he will be coming to entertain our residents and are confident that people will love him! Thanks must go to the Baytree Centre, Holiday Inn Brentwood and Safer Brentwood for their sponsorship to allow us to book him and the other fantastic acts”.

Residents are advised that Brentwood High Street will be closed for traffic between 8am and 8pm. Traffic will be diverted through William Hunter Way and Queens Road.

There will be access in Hart Street for residents only.

Buses will be using diversion routes and temporary bus stops will be in place in William Hunter Way and Ingrave Road. Notices regarding location of temporary bus stops will be displayed in existing bus stops in Brentwood High Street.
