THE Brentwood creator of a new television station that showcases Essex talent has revealed plans to release a documentary on the EU referendum.

Essex TV director Matthew Martino, an ex-Shenfield High School pupil, is also trying to illuminate talent and freedom of expression throughout the county.

Mr Martino, who moved from Zimbabwe to Brentwood in 2011, said: “Our latest project is a documentary we’re working on in the lead up to the EU referendum.

“We want to raise awareness among people about what the EU is all about, maybe inspiring them to get more involved in democracy, and to get their opinions heard.

“Our future goal is to showcase as much of the talent Essex has to offer and to help promote local businesses.”

Mr Martino, who spent his teen years growing up in Brentwood, is now the station’s chief executive – but his journey has not been easy.

His dreams of working in aviation were thwarted after his personal flight charter business “went under” in 2011.

He continued: “I wanted to work in aviation so starting that business seemed like a sensible option.

“But when it went under I had to re-evaluate.

“It was a tough year in 2011, and a very steep learning curve.”

Launched in April this year, the online TV station, which op - erates from Chelmsford, is appealing for anyone with creative talents to get in touch.

It also wants those with opinions on the EU, who would like to be part of a documentary set for release on June 20, to contact the channel.

Mr Martino added: “The aim is to keep it as balanced as possible, and to engage people - to help them be a part of history by voting one way or another.”
