Brentwood Preparatory School has jumped to its highest ever ranking in the list of top 100 prep schools in the UK.

The school moved up 33 places to 31st place in The Sunday Times annual Parent Power guide, thanks to a superb set of Key Stage 2 SATs results.

Headmaster Jason Whiskerd said: “We are delighted with this result and it is a clear indicator of the quality teaching and learning which is taking place at Brentwood Prep.

"Our English and Mathematics results have improved year-on-year without reducing the broad curriculum on offer.”

Pupils at the Prep take part in more than four hours of sport each week, at least two hours of Music and all have Drama lessons. In addition, over 60 Co-Curricular clubs are on offer each week.

The English SATs score is made up of a Reading and Comprehension paper and the new Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar paper.

In the 2015 Year 6 tests, Brentwood scored 80% in the Reading and 86 per cent in the SPAG paper with 11 high-flying pupils achieving Level 6.

It was the Prep’s best ever year in Maths, where the score for Level 5 was 77 per cent and 16 pupils achieved the coveted Level 6. The national average is 38 per cent .

All pupils gained the Government target of Level 4 in English and Mathematics, which far exceeds PIPS (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools) predictions.

Mr Whiskerd added: “The Parent Power league table was based on the KS2 SATS of 2015 which was the last year we sat them. This accolade is a nice way to end our association with the tests!”
