AN elderly woman in her seventies was a casualty of a fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning at the Brentwood Care Centre - an elderly person's home in Larchwood Gardens around 6am.

Ten residents had to be led to safety by firefighters who arrived at the scene.

The casualty was suffering from the affects of smoke inhalation and placed in the care of the Ambulance Service. She was later taken to hospital.

At 6.30am firefighters reported that the fire was out and they were working to ventilate the building and on salvage operations.
