A cancer charity is organising a countryside walk through one of the most historic areas of Essex.

The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity is organising its first Tower Trail at Layer Marney Towers. The route will take visitors on a five-mile stroll over fields and farmland in search of the beautiful sights of the countryside.

Layer Marney Towers is England’s tallest Tudor gatehouse.

The gatehouses look out over the River Blackwater and will provide an incredible view for the walkers as they continue on the wander through the grounds and then to an adventure playground on site.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the charity, which continues to support people who have been affected by cancer in their life.

Since it was established in 1999, the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity has created support centres across Essex, London and Hertfordshire.

The centres help patients suffering from all types of the disease, whether they are newly diagnosed or if the condition is more long term.

The charity is named after former BBC journalist Helen Rollason MBE, who sadly died of colon cancer in Brentwood in 1999.

There are also two shops for the charity in the town centre in Burnham.

The event will take place on Saturday.

Dogs on leads are welcome to be brought on the walk through the tower trail.

Adults may take part in the walk for £15, children aged five and over for £8.

Family tickets will also be available, which will allow two adults and two children to take part for £38. Food and a drink is included in the ticket price. For tickets and more details, go to www.helenrollason.org.uk.
