A TEENAGE girl told a court she overheard two men’s plans to steal a car at knife point, moments before a man was fatally stabbed.

The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also told police the incident which led to the man’s death started with a fight.

The witness gave evidence at Basildon Crown Court yesterday at the trial into the murder of 19-year-old Fabian Kacica.

Fabian, from Southend, died from a stab wound to the chest after a fight broke out near the Forum Library in Southend town centre after two men allegedly tried to steal his Ford Fiesta in May of this year.

Joe Paffey, 21, of Old Southend Road, Southend, and Aidon Pearce, 21 of Treecot Drive, Leigh, are standing trial for murder and attempted robbery. They deny both counts.

The court had heard Fabian, his friend Kamil Mirga and two 15-year-old girls had stopped at the Forum so the girls could use the toilet.

One of the teenage girls told the court she heard men discussing taking Fabian’s Fiesta while she was walking back from the library to his car.

She said: “As I was walking to the car they said ‘we are going to take the car. Shall we take the car?’.

“I heard someone say they had a knife and they were going to take the car.”

She told the jury she thought she heard one man say “do you have a knife?” and another say they did.

Defending barrister Richard Christie asked who she had told about the conversation she said she heard outside the library and she said she told police during an interview some hours after the incident.

Reading back her statement to the police, he said: “You described some of the boys and you were asked how the boys sounded and you said white boy chav.

“You said you didn’t know who stabbed Fabian and you said to police you are not 100 per cent sure but you thought these boys had a conversation about a knife.

“You described a conversation about why the boys in the car were with 15-year-olds.

“You said it started out as a fight, you looked through the window and saw a fight and that’s when you got out of the car and as you did Fabian dropped to the floor.”

The teenager confirmed and said: “Fabian was on the floor when I got out of the car.” The trial continues.
